Church

I have added a couple photos of the church we went to this morning. What a nice service. The priest was a riot too...walking out with a Christmas hat. I have added a link to the church's website on the right. We are about to have lunch, and then its a free day. Some girls are going to try surfing, some are going to shop (again), some are going to the beach. We are meeting at 4:15pm local time to catch the bus to the luau.

In case I can't post later...Happy New Year to you all, the best of 2007 to you too!

Church and Photos

Aloha!

I have added a photo of each girl to the December 31 - Basketball folder on the right. We are off to Sunday morning church.

Double Header

Today the girls played in two basketball games. The first was an exhibition game against a team from Alberta (again!). The girls came out slow, and the Mustangs were out-worked, and lost. The girls relaxed by a pool and in the sun in between games. The second game was against a local Hawaiian club team, which was very physical, and the girls really stepped it up. The ref's were clearly biased for the Hawaiian team, and made sure the Mustangs lost. The highlight of the day was the shopping excursion to Costco. After navigating the very busy warehouse, the fun came when it was time to leave and head back to the gym. After waiting over and hour and a half for a taxi which never showed up. Mr Campbell and Jon decided to just push the groceries in two Costco carts. After checking with their consciences, they deceided to borrow shopping carts, and pushed them through the Ghetto of Honolulu. It was quite a sight! Needless to say, the girls will be well fed thanks to these two and their effort. Tomorrow starts with Church as 10am, then a free day to shop or go to the beach. In the evening, we are off to a Luau with Hula dancing, and will be back in Waikiki to watch the fireworks at midnight.

Game Update

Aloha!

The girls played a hard-fought game against a club team from the island. They ended up losing 74-42, but put in a very good effort. 3 of the girls on the other team had free-ride scholarships already. They are playing two games tomorrow (1 exibihition at noon against an Albertan team, and are playing for 3rd and 4th at 4:30).

Daimond Head Crater

Today we visited Diamond Head (Le'Ahi) State Monument. No-one ever mentioned that we had to hike 1.3km and climb an elevation of 171 meters! It was well worth it, as the picture shows. After getting back to the hotel, the girls were given a shopping day. They spent the entire day (from 10:30 am until about 3:00pm) walking the shops of Waikiki. Some girls bought lots, some didn't. Most went into Louis Vuitton, and decided that a purse for $3500 or a watch for $7850 was just a bit more than mom and dad sent with them. Good thing, as some would have shopped if they had the money! It is now just before 3:00pm, and the girls are getting ready for their next basketball game at 4:15pm. After the game, we are going out for dinner as a group (our first time doing this believe it or not!). Then after that? Who knows...probably more shopping. Take care, and make sure that the snow is gone before we arrive...we hear that it is mighty cold.

A day of Basketball

The girls played their first game today against a team from Alberta. They played a very good first half, and ended up winning the game 59-30, and advance to the next round against a very good club team from Honolulu. This team has 3 girls who already have been given free-ride scholarships to Gonzaga and another American University. After the game, we came back to the hotel, and the girls went to the beach, while the mom's shopped at Costco for breakfasts and lunches. After eating a healthy dinner at the hotel in the Ungaro's room...we were off to the University of Hawaii to watch a Tier 2 NCAA men's basketball game. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors beat the Tennessee Martins in a hard fought game. The girls enjoyed the basketball and got a few autographs too. We just got back from the game, and the girls are in their rooms as we are having an early night tonight. We are off the hike Diamond-head Crater at 9am in the morning. We will be out all day, as the girls don't play until 4:30pm. Wish them luck.

Go Mustangs!

Beach Walk

Laura confirmed that her bag arrived too! The group went for a walk this morning...pics available on the left!

Off to basketball!

Baggage Update

Nicole has confirmed that her bag arrived this morning!

Aloha !

It is 10:40pm Honolulu time (12:40pm PST), and we are in Hawaii!!! We landed about two hours ago, after a rather smooth flight. The only two mis-hap were being delayed in Kelowna by an hour and a half (didn't leave until 2:30pm), therefore, we had to run to make our connecting flight in Vancouver. We all made it with about 5 minutes to spare before taking off. The other issue was in Honolulu where we have two missing bags. Nicole and Laura are missing there Basketball bags, but they should show up within the day. The girls have seen a lot of shops they want to visit. Driving on the bus, we could hear them yelling out names such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Rip Curl, plus many others. We are all currently getting settled in our rooms. The girls have curfew in a little bit, but have headed to Denny's (how original) across the street from the hotel. The parents and three guys (Mark, Jon and me) are going to find some food and somewhere good to have a drink. Pictures are available under links on the right. The first game is tomorrow 1:30pm. We have bought stuff for breakfast from a grocery store and will be eating in the morning at about 10am. We are all exhausted from all the travel. I will update you tomorrow sometime.
